You Know, I’m Proud
Hey,
Had my dance recital today
Mrs. Goddet said that I was her favorite
I finally got my pointe shoes
One step higher, taller, stronger
When I landed,
my feet on the ground
I was happy, the crowd cheered,
So proud
Hey,
I learned how to perfect my apple cake and
I nailed it
So proud
Hey,
I MADE THE TEAM!!!!
Got the message and jumped up and down
Finally, I have proof
Confidence, a show that
I am worthy, that I can do it
My parents are so proud
I am so
proud
Hey,
Felt like a weight was off my shoulders
Me, just soaring
Fearless
Not a care in the world
When I get that large piece of paper that decides my future
When I open the envelope and feel my heart thumping on my chest
And then, silence
Nothing
Just me, soaring
proud
Hey,
Running home to share the news
The compliments flying everywhere
The warm hugs
Everyone staring at the beautiful shimmer of love on my finger
And I am so proud
they are proud
And that’s all that matters
When I hear the words that melt my heart
“Hey mommy! Come taste my apple cake!”
PROUD

Kid’s Poetry
Once upon a time,
there lived a little girl,
She was fearless and proud but always wrong.
“Santa’s slay was carried by moose”,
The girl shouted loud.
All her preschool friends were filled with doubt.
“It’s true” she said,
“You better believe it!”
She was so proud and fearless,
That no one was conflicted.
“The sun is a planet!”
The girl exclaimed.
All her middle school friends showed their disdain.
“It’s true” she said,
“You better believe it!”
She was so proud and fearless,
That no one corrected.
“Lava is cold!”
The girl explained.
All her highschool friends were mixed with dread.
“It’s true” she said,
“You better believe it!”
She was so proud and fearless,
That no one dismissed it.
“Tomatoes grow on trees!”
The girl proclaimed.
All her college friends-
“You’re wrong.”
“What?”
“You’re wrong.”
For the first time, the girl was disproven.
She met another who was even more fearless and proud, however just as stupid.
“Tomatoes grow underground!”
The other re-stated.
And the girl was so shocked that she believed it.

What Could Have Been
Quiet whispers surround me in a hug.
The gentle whistle of the kettle,
The pop of the toast,
The smell of raw honey.
I can almost feel the morning light;
Warm but cold to my eyes.
The smell of the trees wafts in
Sweet and inviting.
The rustle of the thick pages,
Covered in dots;
Each page is a reminder
Of a joy quietly stolen away.
A world unseen, a lost dimension
I learn to see with a listening heart,
Pining over
What could have been.

Greed and Glitter
Will come up to a lady, in shimmering red
Eyes sparkling golden and unfed –
Wanting, wanting, always wanting more
Knocking, knocking at the door.
Words said with a bated breath.
Lies spun with golden thread –
Leading me to the edge,
You almost forget the unsaid.
A grin, a touch too bold
Maybe I am not sold –
Ignoring my pleas
A bow, a wink, a final tease.
