Jonathan Hirrose stood next to the glass pane on the 25th floor. The next instant his dead corpse laid on the cement pavement, blood was splattered and the scene was surrounded by police tape and police officers.
I don’t know how I got to this point or what really happened all I know is how it began…. This all started on October 16th.
My molar had been bothering me for some time. The dull ache was bearable, however, the longer I kept delaying the very long overdue dentist appointment, the more irritating my toothache became. I finally decided to go to the dentist with Jeff, who was a good buddy of mine. Dr. Mosley was a well-known and respected dentist, I had known him for quite some time. The clinic had recently moved to an empty office building near the corner of the town, this wasn’t a big deal as it was only a 15 minute drive from my place. I exited my car, stood and gawked at the lonely structure. The bricks seemed loose and the grey paint looked like it was peeling off, a thin layer of dust blanketed the aging building. It would have looked uninhabited if it wasn’t for the dim flickering lights on the fourth floor. As I entered the building, the metallic odour of rust latched onto my nasal cavity. As Jeff and I scaled the staircase our footsteps echoed through the empty building disrupting the silence. We sat to wait for the dentist, I observed my surroundings. The clinic itself seemed unwelcoming, chalky white fragments of paint fell to the floor, the carpet was stained with mysterious liquids. The fluorescent lights dimly illuminated the room, flickering every once in a while.
“Mr. Jonathan Hirrose” shrieked a small woman from behind the counter. Dr. Mosley stood against the doorframe waiting for me. The man stood around 6 feet tall and his once dark hair was now grey. As his stern eyes glared at me I felt a shiver down my spine. Ignoring the uneasiness building up in me, I entered the room. Dr. Mosley gestured to me to lay onto the dental chair. I felt the cold metallic dental mirror in my mouth, I am not usually a nervous guy, but just entering the building itself gave me a strange feeling. Finally, Dr. Mosley spoke in a calm low tone “ Your teeth seem sensitive, I will have to give you anesthesia however I will have to inject it into your gums.” I hastily nodded my head, all I wanted to do was to get out of here. As the dentist prepared the injection, I glanced over the surroundings surveying the room. It was nothing special, there was a blue dentist chair in one corner surrounded by shelves that housed dental equipment, the desk was pushed up against the cream colored walls. Numerous medical certificates and dental posters presenting the anatomy of human teeth plastered the walls.
Dr. Mosely held my forehead with one hand whilst the other was injecting the anesthesia into my gums. At first, I felt nothing until I noticed the creepy smile on the doctor’s face. The injection was slowly digging into my gums and the dentist seemed to be twisting the needle inside my gums. The pain was intense, I could not think straight and in the mists of my fight or flight responses, I screamed, yelling at the top of my lungs. I could feel the needle poking through the other side of my gums, I tasted a warm metallic liquid it was sickening. Dr. Mosley stood back with different dental apparatus in his hand. “Mr. Hirrose I was in the middle of filling your cavity, it seems that your teeth are quite sensitive, would you like another dosage of anesthesia?” Dr. Mosley furrowed his brows. I shook my head, and the doctor continued with his work. I glanced at the overhead mirror, I wondered was Dr. Mosley filling my cavity the entire time? Was it just my imagination? Whilst I was occupied with my thoughts, the doctor examined his handy work. I rinsed out my mouth only to see thick crimson blood. Without much thought I made my way out, but before I reacted the door Dr. Mosley’s hand gripped my shoulders. I slowly turned around only to see the elderly man holding an odd box. The dentist squeezed the dark paste onto his gloved fingers and applied it to my gums. The entire experience gave me the chills and I no longer wished to ever visit again. I placed the money on the front desk and frantically ran out ignoring everyone.
When I arrived home, I had numerous questions and no explanations of what had just happened. I examined my gums and to my surprise there were no scars nor was there any blood. Was I going insane or was it the paste that hid Dr. Mosley’s tortuous work? For the next 2 weeks life was going on fine, I felt no tooth pain and I myself was doing alright until today. I woke up with cold sweat on my back, I was drenched and shaking. The pain was unbearable and I felt such agony. I got up and called the dentist, unfortunately he was not available. I open the drawers and frantically open a bottle of painkillers. Without much thought, I dump the entirety of the bottle’s contents into my mouth and take a big gulp of water. My pain was ripping through my skull, I could not sleep, I could not function at all….
The sun began to rise, the orange hue of the sun cascading into my apartment. The rays of light illuminated my room, the silhouette of a shaking man plastered itself on to my walls. I called every single dentist office in the entire state and none were open. What were the odds? There was no dentist, no hospital, there was just pain. Pain that was carving into me and into my sanity. Wet tears began streaming down my face. All there was left was pain. I wept and screamed and hit my head repeatedly against the wall. I was drowning the pain. I continued in this frenzy for hours on end. It got so extreme that I began grabbing chunks of my hair and yanking it out. You know that something is wrong when your crying slowly turns into maniacal laughter. I felt no pain, I felt nothing, I didn’t feel human anymore. I began to scratch my gums with my fingernails. Blood was everywhere and was flowing out like a river. I grabbed a kitchen knife and began carving out my teeth. I stood in front of a mirror, I no longer saw a man standing, all I saw was an insane person who threw away his humanity. My vision began to blur probably because of the blood loss. My apartment now a wasteland: walls covered with blood prints, furniture beaten up and the floor covered in a lake of blood. Suddenly, all my feelings began to return. I felt immense pain, pain that I never felt before. I didn’t only feel physical pain but I felt mental pain. It dawned upon me that I never even went to the dentist. I never even had a tooth pain in the first place. The only thing that was going on was my ever growing insanity. I slipped in a puddle of blood and my limp body fell through the glass pane, I kept falling and all that was left was the sweet release of death.
Jonathan Hirrose’s dead corpse was found on a cement pavement, his mouth was horribly mutilated and blood had splattered everywhere.
