Ink and Opinion

October is here, dear readers, and Elements continues. October to me marks the beginning of fall, and the end of warmth. It brings with it a spirit of spirits, the supernatural and spooky. I think often, October brings out the child in us, whether it is frolicking in the corpses of dead leaves, or the excitement of facade that accompanies Halloween, October remakes us and establishes new rules. To me, however, it usually means a warmer climate, because living in Kenya does not afford the opportunity of winter. I don’t think someone has to personally experience winter or autumn to associate the seasons with this month. I think it is such a big part of our cultural consciousness, and has become an important part of life. Of course for the change in acceptance of wearing sweaters and sweatpants because of the cold, but also the change it brings in all of us. And let us not forget the treasure of the holiday season and a break. This October also marks the second school year of operations for Elements, which is exciting for all of us at Writers’ Club. We have displayed art from a variety of artists in a variety of art forms. In the spirit of the supernatural and the spooky, we have entered this issue around horror. This October has been a challenge, but also familiar as many of us have settled into a routine for our isolated lives. We you can work us into your schedule.

Enjoy.
