Societal Ignorance

“I’ve never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don’t like eating fish. And I know that’s very popular out there in Africa.”- Britney Spears.

Japan? Africa?
Japan in Africa?
What would have been easier to comprehend would be calling Africa a country,
or Japan a continent,
But not the two in correlation with each other.
Most find this quote amusing or absurd,
It is absurd, in the sense that it is an uneducated, uninformed statement.
Statements like these usually stem from one of two things; you are either too poor to afford an education,
Or you are too rich to care.

We are ignorant of different cultures, far away places, unique ideas.
By closing off our minds,
By only being aware of what is familiar to us,
We forget that there are an infinite number of cultures,
We are are oblivious to the fact that there are 195 countries in seven different continents,
And we ignore the other seven billion, four hundred and ninety-nine million, nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred ninety-nine ideas different from ours.

Racism, shallow phobias, capitalism, climate change
A select few of our world problems today
Different issues, issues each in their own way,
Stemming from the same headache
Causing our world constant pain.

The only cure, to drown out the agony, much more powerful than any painkiller – is education
To get rid of our sad creation,
Education making our world less obstructive
For as we have seen, ignorance is destructive.
