March escapes us, dear readers, as Elements begins. March to me marks the beginning, because spring begins as March does (at least it does in most of the Northern Hemisphere). It brings with it an invigorated passion for the rest of the year, the feeling of something fresh and maturity. March is typically the beginning of spring across the majority of the Northern Hemisphere, and so it naturally fits in with our theme of beginnings for this edition.
I think March inspires us to start anew, and try our hardest to be our best selves, presenting us with a blank slate. Here in Kenya, it can sometimes bring with it more rains, which stays on theme with the idea of a blank slate, for what is rain but a method of washing away the past to make room for the future?
This year also marks the beginning of a new decade, which makes it a grander celebration. This March is a very special beginning for us at Writers’ Club because we finally have the opportunity to show all of you the hard work we have been doing to take this magazine live. We have displayed art from a variety of artists in a variety of art forms. In the spirit of spring, we centered this issue around beginnings, though not all of our pieces may seem like they fit the theme.
This March has also been challenging for all of us in the ISK community, so we invite you to get lost in the artwork and forget about the world for a little while.
Enjoy.
